PLEASE READ UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN
I am sure some of you have heard about TweetBig, a twitter management tool that promises to increase your followers and hits to your website. Many have read the canned reviews you find all over the internet however you have yet to read an actual real review of the product.
I participated in the 7 day trial that TweetBig offers. It was only a buck so I decided to give it a shot. Here is my review.
The Promises From TweetBig
- Gain several thousand new followers every month (750+ in only 4 days)
- Increase your website traffic (400 new visitors DAILY)
- Make getting followers really simple and really quick
My TweetBig Test
These are some big numbers and big expectations. I decided to give this a test using both 708 Media’s main Twitter account @708Media and also a brand new experimental account called @708experimental. I tested the product for 5 days straight (allowing 2 days for cancellation procedures).
My TweetBig Results
- Increased @708Media by 379 followers and @708Experimental by 360 followers.
- Did not increase traffic from twitter to my blog or to any other tweet I made
- As for being quick and simple, see my detailed review below
My TweetBig REAL Review
Usability
TweetBig has a pretty simple interface. When you sign up, a video walks you through the setup of your account. It explains all things you will need to know in order to use TweetBig.
You add followers to you account by adding 15 people you would like to piggy back off of. These people are those that you feel would have followers you want to target. Once you add them, it suggests to you people that you can follow. It also provides you a percentage that tells you if they are more likely to follow you back. See image below.
This tool is simple to use. You also have a feature that allows you to set your account to be managed. This will automatically pick and follow people that are following those that you piggy back.
There are other tools that are simple to setup such as scheduled tweets, automatic unfollow those not following you after a certain number of days, auto follow back, keyword search and a few other tools that were really not that helpful.
Functionality
It could have just been my luck, but for the 5 days that I was testing this product, there were many issues with the site not working correctly.
Many times, it would stop following those that were in the que to be followed. I often fixed this by logging in and adding a few more to the que. It was almost as if this jump started the process again. A few times there were PHP errors that would pop up. I would have to wait and come back in after a few hours.
Because of the way Twitter is setup up, it does not mass follow a group of people quickly. Once you add them to the que or select managed, it slowly adds them throughout the day. It seems when it is in a good mood it will run at about 50-75 and hour. Most of the time, it would slow to a crawl adding only 2-10 an hour taking breaks in between before it ads just a few more.
It seemed more as if this product was still in beta testing than an actual finished product.
Results
Above, I told you about my results from TweetBig which were about an average of 370 followers per 5 days. I did not receive the 750 new followers in 4 days as said in the video, however the software did not work about 30% of the time.
Still, I must say that the 370 followers were targeted followers. 370 followers averages out to about 74 new targeted followers a day or 2220 followers a month.
Even those these followers were targeted, I did not notice an increase in links I posted to twitter. This however could be as simple as my links I posted during this time were just not interesting enough. Who knows, the time to test this was too short.
The Price
TweetBig charges you 1 dollar for a 7 day trial and after that, TweetBig costs $17.95 per month.
Overall
As you have read above, TweetBig does not fulfill all of its promises, however it does fill some. As stated above, you easily can add 2000+ followers a month to you Twitter account using TweetBig, however, it is not fully automated. I told you about the constant errors that I had during the test. If I were not to stay on top of these, I would have not hit the numbers I did.
As for price and bang for you buck. I would definitely recommend signing up for the 7 day trial. It costs you almost nothing and you can see how it works for your self and if it is worth keeping for you. I, myself, did not find it to be worth the money they are charging since TweetBig runs off the concept of just following a mass amount of people hoping that they will follow you back. I feel that for the same amount of time I spent on TweetBig, I could have gone to a Twitter directory such as Twellow and just followed everyone in the same category as me. I could have also went and followed all those that were following the 15 people that I added into the piggy back system. As for the unfollowing and auto follow back, there are other free tools that can do this for you. The most I would pay for this product is 5-7 dollars per month.
This is my opinion and I really encourage you to form your own opinion of the product yourself. Be sure to allow yourself at least two days to cancel as ClickBank states that cancellations can take 1 business day.

UPDATE (12/5/2010)
It seems as if TweetBig has stopped working. It has not worked for the past 3-4 days. This could be due to the horrible way that the owner runs business or that they have gone belly up. It seems as if the owner of this product does not provide immediate support to his product which tells me he could just be out on vacation and choosing not to deal with the problems. Either way, this is not a product worth paying a dime for. Even a free product is not worth it if it does not work. Until issues are fixed, I recommend NOBODY to sign up for this trial or subscription.
This product is totally worthless. It has potential, just needs someone to run it that knows how to set proper pricing and how to fix it when it does not work.

I now use the service for 10 accounts of mine. I’m generally satisfied however I feel it could work a bit faster. There was technical errors in December that since have been fixed. There is no way I could do any of the manual work involving following on Twitter so the service does help. I wonder why some accounts seem to move faster than others though. I’m looking for a second service to use and test it on a couple accounts. I wouldn’t advise using two at the same time because you might flag twitter and get deleted.
I’m pretty satisfied though. Since Dec my main acct went from 25k – 42k followers. My second account went from around 2k – 25k and I just started 8 other accounts this spring which all have between 2k – 4k followers.

This tool needs (or perhaps I missed it) a way to sync with your twitter account. It recommended that I follow myself and many followers that I already have.

Used this service for a couple of months and it’s performance got steadily worse? The User follower target did not work well, despite carefully targeting users in our field. It also has a dangerous autofollow back service?
If left on, auto-follow back would provide 2-300 new followers the next day. Most of these were quite inappropiate and some certainly spam? We were then told to remove these new names – which took hours, in order to continue targeting more – Forget it!
Thanks to your note online, we have cancelled our TweetBig account- it adds little of value and just creates more work!

I’d walked through the entire process and was disappointed because it said free trial only to find it was not free at all. Even giving my cc number for just $1 made me leery. I started hunting for what appeared to be an objective point of view. So often you give up the card number & then they don’t respond when you want to cancel so I will pass on even the $1. Thanks so much for an honest review of this product.

I just clicked through on an ad to the the tweetbig site and was concerned that it didn’t mention the price anywhere – that was the huge red flag to me so I started checking to find this blog. We have a page of free twitter tools on our site as well as a video that shows the tool we use if you have an interest in a pay tool for a company that sticks around – we’ve been burned twice by hummingbird and tweetontherun……

Thank you for making this information available. I’m learning to use twitter and related tools. TweetBig seems to work initially and then stopped working. Thanks to your directions I saved the 17.95 first month.

This blows. Overlooked the ‘free trial’ thingy. At the end of setup I was asked for a dollar, which is fair enough. But no info anywhere on what it actually costs.
No FAQ page.
Seems to me like an engine to scrape data.
Not pleased.

Been using it for two accounts with limited success. The idea is good the app relatively well build, however here is what scares me;
– charged the wrong amount for the first month of usage
– no way of cancelling
– support does not answer
– when contacting support with a second issue, their system will not allow to post the second support issue because one is pending
– numbers of followers/friends do not match those of my Twitter account
My gut instinct tells me to stay away from this service. No I hope I can find a way to unsubscribe from their service.

Did you try the method I mentioned in my article or try calling them? That worked for me. I may move that section of the article to its own article to make it easier to read

I tried this trail and have to cancel my account today in order to not be charged for the rest. It stopped working 2 days into the trial and no one got back to me to help fix it. I never received a confirmation email and since this is required to cancel my account I can’t do so. Also, clickbank customer service is closed for the weekends.
What a nightmare. I do not suggest using. I have no idea what I’m going to do to fix all of this.
Chris Edwards says
Laura, Try calling ClickBank on Monday as early as you can. They have some kinda deal with their sellers where if a buyer can be refunded up to 60 days with no questions asked. If you call them, they can look up your order number based off your name and stuff and they will refund you. I do see this as a huge flaw in the 7 day trial system as you realistically have to cancel with 2 business days remaining in order to avoid charges. If you did it over a weekend, such as your self, you really have to end it early to avoid getting charged. In your case, you would be canceling the product after say only 3 days of evaluation which really is not enough to evaluate a product such as this. TweetBig needs to make it a 2 week or even a 30 day free trial and they need to make their product work. My experience was similar to yours where it did not work for parts of the trial.

I fell in love with the program when I first used it. Then a few days ago it started to not recognize any screennames I put in. I’m trying to wait it out but I feel like tossing my laptop at the wall.It is very irritating. Other functions of the program are working. As to whether the amount is worth it…I feel it is kind of pricey for something that isn’t working all of the time. Then again we know that twitter in and of itself is VERY quirky. I spend a lot of time on twitter for business scheduling tweets promoting businesses, underground artists, multiple feeds on two accts…it’s a lot of work but this program has really helped because I simply do not have the time to work on getting more followers all of the time. This program does what I had a group of people doing for me. I actually had a group of interns helping me with my follower numbers. Anyway I am hoping that this blip about not recognizing screennames works itself out.

This worked great for the first ten days but HAS NOT WORKED AT ALL for the past two days.
Plus, customer service there is practically useless.
Chris Edwards says
I found the same issues during my trial. It worked great some days, other days it was plagued with problems. I believe it is one person supporting it and that it does not take top priority for him to fix it. For the price, he should be fixing issues the second they happen. Not waiting and taking forever to fix them. Thanks for your addition to this review.
hayleigh says
They say you can have a trial for $1 for a week, but there is actually NO, yes I repeat, NO way to cancel your account… The customer service is none existent…I am 100% sure that it’s just a guy (or indeed a girl) collecting money from hapless people like myself after having written a programme… They’re somewhere else spending your money as the website goes through the gears collecting money from people… AVOID!!
Chris Edwards says
I mentioned in the article how to cancel. It worked for me just fine. You can also call customer service on the phone and speak to a person to cancel. Key is to do it after 5 days. I waited six and got charged for the month but called customer support and they refunded it for me.
Chris Edwards says
Okay, I found the phone number I called to help everyone out. I will add it to the article as well. The number I called was 1-800-390-6035. When I called it, I gave them my order number and they canceled the subscription for me with no questions asked. Again, BE SURE to do it and allow 2 BUSINESS days for it. They say only 1 business day however when I did 1 business day, they processed it but the credit card charge already went though and they had to refund that. It is better to do it 2 business days prior.
Harriet says
I have a question:
I know you said it gained you a lot of followers but does it gain you a lot of real person followers or is it just robots?
Chris Edwards says
I would say about 65 percent are real and about 35 percent are bots
Chris says
Hey, thanks for the really comprehensive review. Been looking for a really good service to use for this. I’m going to set up a new Twitter account first, do a few manual follows, then set this baby up!
Chris Edwards says
Yes definitely give it a try. I am on out of town on vacation but it is still getting me new followers even after I canceled it. This is not bad at all just wish the cost was less.
